about

Conversations We’ve Had Before is the culmination of almost thirty years of playing together with Saul, and us wanting to push ourselves to learning new material and trying new things, rather than, as David put it, “doing all our old sh**”!

Saul and I have loved playing with David over the years - firstly for me with the Gift band, then in Wayward, and we are delighted and honoured that he agreed to bring his considerable talents to bear in this trio.

The three of us have all brought different skills and material to this album, and it wouldn’t be the same with any one of us removed from the equation.

The Conversations referred to in the title reflect just how long it’s taken for us to find the perfect balance and get this done, but we found it…and here it is.

This album is dedicated to Paul Sartin, a dear friend much missed.

"The best album Eliza Carthy has put together in years, possibly even a decade. In tandem with Saul Rose and David Delarre, with whom she shares an almost supernatural chemistry, the musician has recorded the kind of album you show to people who dismiss English folk music at their peril, demonstrating its highs, its lows, and its ability to take both your breath and your heart the second you let your guard down." about

Eliza Carthy Whitby, UK

Describing herself simply as a 'modern English musician', Eliza Carthy is one of the most recognisable faces in British folk.

From the purest unaccompanied traditional songs to original music incorporating myriad influences, she has moved through English folk music like a force of nature, both stirring it up & putting it back on the map.
